The results of your food allergy test will provide information on how your IgE antibodies react to 44 common foods. These foods will be rated on a scale ranging from Class 0 (normal reactivity) to Class 3 (high reactivity). It may be helpful to prioritize foods that you have a high reactivity to when creating a temporary elimination diet.
Immunoglobulin E (IgE) food allergy tests are generally considered accurate for identifying specific food allergies. IgE food allergies involve an immune system reaction to a specific protein in a food, and symptoms typically occur within a few minutes to a few hours after exposure to the allergen.
There are several types of IgE food allergy tests available, including skin prick tests, blood tests, and patch tests. These tests measure the levels of IgE antibodies in the blood or on the skin in response to specific allergens. A positive test result indicates the presence of IgE antibodies and a potential allergy to the specific allergen being tested.
It is important to note that a negative test result does not necessarily mean that an individual is not allergic to a particular food. In some cases, food allergies may not produce IgE antibodies or may produce them at levels that are below the detection threshold of the test. Additionally, some individuals may have a food allergy that is not IgE-mediated, in which case an IgE food allergy test would not be able to detect it.
